Love Lost Bath Soak/Facial Steam

A healing, spiritual mix of herbs and minerals that work together for body-mind relaxation.

What is it?

Bath soaks and facial steams are some of the best DIYs for skincare beginners. They are almost too easy in that, most of the time, it consists of dry ingredients that only need to be mixed together. This blend is a mix of herbs (petals, flowers, and leaves) and minerals (salts) that are easily replicated/found at your local apothecary.

While many of these herbs and minerals have healing benefits, we believe that the true healing comes from experiencing yourself. Not to detract from the scientific evidence of these ingredients, but to us the act of caring for yourself, being intentional with how you treat your body and mind, and merging with nature is more beneficial than the negative ions salt produces. Feel free to mix up the herbs, spices, and minerals to align with your intentions. This particular blend is great for mind/body healing.

Let’s get started

Not to much to say about preparation here, just make sure your area is sterile as this will be touching the most sensitive areas of your body. While this blend is pretty mild, always do a test of products before using as different skin types react differently. All measurements can be eyeballed, though we recommend

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Optional:
    • Stirring device
    • Funnel to transfer to final container

Ingredients

1 oz   Dried rose petals/buds

1 oz   Dried calendula buds/petals

1 oz   Dried chamomile buds/petals

1 oz   Dried yarrow root

1 oz   Dried echinacea petals

1 oz   Dried lemon balm leaves

1 tsp  Himalayan pink salt

1 tsp  Red alaea salt – this salt contain alalea clay

Instructions

Mix the herbs in a bowl then transfer to the final container. Lightly sprinkle salts on top. The mix will technically never expire, but the herbs will lose potency.

How to use

To use as a bath soak, simply prepare a bath as hot as you can take comfortably, and pour* in the ingredients.

To use as a facial steam, heat a quart of water to almost boiling. If using the same pot/container, grab a towel while it heats. If not, grab a large glass bowl and transfer hot water. Once the water is heated, pour the herbs into the container, cover with the towel, and wait three minutes. Uncover the container to let initial steam out. Place your face as close as is comfortable to the water and cover your head with the towel to keep the residual steam in. Stay here for at least 7 minutes, or as long as comfortable. Stop after steams stops producing.

At the end of the day…

You can mix and match many, many herbs and minerals for soaks and steams. Don’t be afraid to try new mixes, just be cautious about what you’re inhaling! Heavier spices like cloves may be too much and irritating for your respiratory system and skin. What’s most important is to pay attention to your mind, body, and spirit when selecting the right mix.
